Service

Historic restoration in Louisville's overlay districts.

We work in Old Louisville, Cherokee Triangle, Butchertown, Germantown, and Portland. We know the Metro Historic Preservation review process and what actually gets approved.

Restored 1890s brick Victorian in Louisville's Cherokee Triangle with wraparound porch

Restore the character. Fix the mechanicals.

Louisville has thousands of houses over 100 years old, and most of them have plaster walls, single-pane windows, cloth-wire electrical, cast-iron drain stacks, and knob-and-tube in the attic. You can love the character and still want the wiring to be safe.

Our job is to figure out what to preserve, what to upgrade quietly, and what to replace outright. We're not going to talk you into ripping out original plaster to run duct that would fit in the joist bay if we thought about it.

Overlay-district work

What we do inside the review process.

Exterior restoration

Brick tuckpointing and lime mortar work, wood window sash repair, painted-lady color schemes, porch reconstruction, iron railing repair, slate and standing-seam metal patching.

Sensitive interior work

Plaster patching (not drywall replacement), original trim replication, refinishing hardwood without over-sanding, rewiring without ripping out plaster where we can avoid it.

Metro Preservation review

We prepare the paperwork, take the photos, and represent the application. We've worked with the Landmarks Commission and know what they'll approve on the first pass.

Sympathetic additions

Kitchen extensions and primary suites designed to read as period-appropriate from the street. Match the brick, the window rhythm, the roof pitch, the trim profile.
