The federal 30% residential Investment Tax Credit expired December 31, 2025. It's not available for systems installed in 2026. Anyone telling you otherwise is either misinformed or lying, and either one should make you walk away.

Kentucky has no state solar credit. What you do still get is LG&E and KU net metering — the utility credits your account for excess power you send back to the grid. That's the primary financial mechanism keeping residential solar viable here.

Payback right now in Louisville sits around 12–17 years without the federal credit, depending on your roof orientation, tree cover, and utility usage pattern. Panels are warrantied 25 years, so you're still net-positive if the math works for your situation.

TOPCon (Tunnel Oxide Passivated Contact) is the current generation of monocrystalline solar cell technology — higher efficiency than older PERC panels, better low-light performance, and less temperature-related output loss on Kentucky summer roofs. In a market where every installer is switching from PERC to TOPCon anyway, we picked it early because the math is better for Louisville's climate.
